About the event

“The Black Horse” combines several versions of The Firebird story with a closely related tale collected on the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides. Of course there’s a villainous grasping king, and necessarily, a princess, but one who reveals a surprising twist to her character.

The story is woven through with two horse-themed tunes from the 17th century, played by Liz York on a lever harp
